A woman who underwent a foot amputation following a workplace injury at a Washington state airport has successfully resolved her civil suit for a noteworthy $11 million. Alyah Payne, involved in a work-related vehicle collision in April 2021, initiated legal action against the Port of Seattle, Hensel Phelps Construction Co., and additional defendants in connection with the workplace incident.
While operating a baggage tug at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Ms. Payne collided with another baggage tug negotiating a blind corner. Her legal claim contended that the Port of Seattle neglected to implement safety measures, such as stationing a flagger around the blind corner.
In a settlement devoid of confidentiality restrictions, the Port of Seattle and Hensel Phelps collectively disbursed $11 million. Attorney Raymond Bishop, from Bishop Law Offices P.S. in Normandy Park, Washington, who represented the plaintiff, confirmed the settlement amount. Additionally, Ms. Payne reached a confidential “amicable resolution” with an undisclosed entity, separate from the main settlement.

He noted that the highest jury verdict for a comparable case stood at $40 million.
